Special Issue of The Glasnik of the Bar Association of Vojvodina

Gender Dimension of Law: Theoretical, Normative, and Practical Challenges 

The Glasnik of the Bar Association of Vojvodina, in cooperation with the GEM European projecti, invites authors to submit scientific, professional, and review papers for a special issue devoted to the gender dimension of law, with particular focus on the theoretical-legal, normative, institutional, and practical aspects of the relationship between gender and the legal order. 

Contemporary legal systems face complex questions concerning the relationship between formal equality and substantive equality, the universality of human rights and concrete social experiences, as well as the boundaries between normative regulation and social reality. Gender issues today constitute a significant field of legal-theoretical, legislative, judicial, and institutional debate, encompassing the way legal norms are shaped, interpreted, and applied, the reach of anti-discrimination mechanisms, the practice of domestic and international institutions, and the alignment of national legal systems with European and international standards for the protection of human rights. 

The special issue is particularly directed toward papers from the fields of legal science, legal theory, and philosophy of law, with room for interdisciplinary approaches that contribute to understanding contemporary challenges in the areas of gender equality, the prohibition of discrimination, access to justice, and the protection of human rights. 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: 

• normative foundations of equality and the prohibition of discrimination in domestic, European, and international law; 

• anti-discrimination law and mechanisms of legal protection; 

• the specificity of women’s rights in the context of universal human rights; 

• the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and other international institutions on issues of gender equality, discrimination, and the protection of human rights; 

• constitutional, civil, labor, family, criminal, and international law aspects of gender issues; 

• legal theory, philosophy of law, and legal hermeneutics in the context of gender equality; 

• labor law, social rights, and gender inequalities; 

• minority rights, multiple discrimination, and intersectional approaches to law; 

• the relationship between law, public policy, and social change; 

• ethical, sociological, political-science, and cultural dimensions of gender-sensitive law; 

• interdisciplinary approaches to the relationship between law, gender, and contemporary society. 

Authors from the fields of legal science, philosophy, sociology, political science, gender studies, public policy, and other related disciplines, as well as experts from judicial and legal practice, are invited to contribute to the theoretical, normative, and practical reflection on contemporary challenges in the area of law and gender equality.
